EODY: There are 13 cases of West Nile virus in Greece

In 13 cases of West Nile virus are rising in our country, as announced by the EODY announcement.

11 of them have been identified in Municipalities of the Metropolitan Unity of Thessaloniki, one has been found in a Municipality of the Regional Unity of Larissa and one is under investigation.

The EODY announcement in detail:

“EODY recommends that you consistently take preventive measures against mosquito bites.

Until 26/07/2022, 13 cases of West Nile virus infection have been diagnosed in the country, of which 11 in Municipalities of the Metropolitan Unity of Thessaloniki, one in a Municipality of the Regional Unity of Larissa and one is under investigation. In addition, the circulation of the virus in mosquitoes has been recorded in various regions of the country. In the near future, other incidents are expected in the country, as well as in other European countries. Therefore, we recommend that you take individual mosquito protection measures consistently throughout the territory. Special care in taking measures is needed in older people and people with chronic underlying diseases, who are more at risk of being more seriously affected by the infection.
