A British man has died in front of his brother after a tail rotor crashed while getting off a helicopter during a holiday in Greece.

The 21-year-old was unaware that the propeller was still spinning when he walked behind the plane in Sparta, near Athens.

His parents were in another helicopter after flying from Mykonos to the same place.

However, the pilot wirelessly transmitted the helicopter at 6:20 pm yesterday, reporting the accident.

A source told The Sun: “The pilot saw what happened and decided that his parents would stop seeing their son. That was horrible.

The couple were comforted when he was sent to another helicopter in Athens, where a young man was confirmed dead.

“The cause is under investigation, but it is not clear why this happened or was allowed to happen when the rotor blades pose such an obvious hazard.”

Emergency services swamped civilian helicopters on the outskirts of the Greek capital.

However, the young man is believed to have died the moment he hit the helicopter blade.

It is not yet known how the incident happened, but investigations are ongoing.

“We are talking about a tragedy, an unprecedented tragedy and a tragedy that should never happen,” police sources told the newspaper.
