The Minister of Health explained that there is already a downward trend in cases, which he said will also extend to hard indicators
Health Minister Thanos Pleuris ruled out the possibility of reinstating the restrictive measures for the coronavirus, speaking on SKAI and on the show “Today”.
He explained that the wave of the pandemic has already peaked and there is already a downward trend in cases, which he said will also be extended to hard indices. “It makes no sense to restore measures,” said the minister.
He also pointed out that the fact that the NHS is not pressured in the field of ICU bedsshows that there is no point in taking action.
Regarding the number of deaths, he said that a very large percentage is due to covid and not covid. “30-35% of the patients who are hospitalized at the moment are hospitalized for another reason and have tested positive for the coronavirus, so they must enter a covid unit and are counted as corresponding cases. But we are not saying that there are no deaths, let me make that clear,” he said.
About the vaccines, noted that there are two tiers being tested by Pfizer and Moderna, in the first phase to protect against Omicron contamination and also to protect against Omicron 4-5. He estimated that towards the end of the summer or the beginning of September the two companies will submit a request for approval.
Asked about the case of administering a booster dose to the general population, he said that it is still not known if it will be needed, because it is related to the course of the pandemic.
Regarding his statements regarding non-observance of the sanitary protocol by Alexis Tsipras, clarified the following: “I am referring to the instructions of the EODY. If someone gets sick the day of the illness is day 0 followed by 5 days of quarantine and after 5 days the mask must be worn. Based on the times that Mr. Tsipras has given, he should have been in quarantine and wearing a mask. No exception is made in case the pcr is negative. Quarantine has been disconnected from the test.”
And he continued: “The answer that you are a far-right troll and charlatan without mentioning what instructions Mr. Tsipras followed, is a criticism that has no basis.” It is not excluded, as he said, that the test of the president of SYRIZA was falsely negative. “This is the reason for the 5 days”, he said characteristically.
Finally, to deal with the phenomenon with “bags” in hospitals, he emphasized that in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Governance, a measure is being developed to schedule surgical appointments electronically, as is done with vaccination appointments.
