Mônica Bergamo: Hospitalizations for respiratory syndrome are on the rise among adults in Brazil, says Fiocruz

by

The number of hospitalizations for respiratory syndrome in Brazil grew again after a period of stability: from 6,000 cases at the end of October to 6,600 in the last week of November, a 10% jump.

HIGH JUMP

One fact is worrying: growth took place at practically all ages — until then, there were small fluctuations between them. When one went up, the other went down.

JUMP 2

The information comes from the InfoGripe bulletin, by Fiocruz, which has been one of the main thermometers of the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in Brazil.

JUMP 3

The biggest jump was in the age group from 10 to 19 years old (growth of 50%), from 20 to 29 years old (47%). From 30 to 59 years old, the jump was around 30%.

SUAVE

Only among people over 70 years old was there a slight drop in admissions.

REASON

InfoGripe’s coordinator, Marcelo Gomes, says that the discharge cannot be credited to any new variant —but rather to the general low guard of the population, which relaxed with the significant drop in cases, hospitalizations and deaths seen after mass vaccination in the parents.

VERY EASY

“There is an ease of transmission, not just of the coronavirus but of other respiratory viruses, as the population’s exposure has increased with the relaxation of virus containment measures,” he says.

IT’S PARTY!

The states with the highest increase are Pará, Ceará and Rio de Janeiro, where Mayor Eduardo Paes had already announced a lively Carnival for 2022.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR

Adriana Couto and Leo Madeira presented the 2021 Social Entrepreneur Award ceremony, held by sheet, on Tuesday (30), in the newspaper’s auditorium, in SP. Artists Livia La Gatto and Renata Maciel performed a virtual pocket show at the event that awarded Covid’s five initiatives to fight against it.
