Coronavirus – Mutations: The “Delta” strain prevails with 885 new cases

by

The National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, operated under the coordination of EODY, completed the genomic analysis in 894 samples that were randomly selected or targeted and cover the period 13 October 2021 to 20 November 2021. of 894 samples, a total of 885 samples with special interest strains (VariantsOf Concern – VOC) emerged.

Of the 885 samples with strains of special interest, all relate to the Delta strain.

Seven of the 885 Delta executives refer to the strain ΑΥ.4.2, which were located in the Regional Units of Lassithi (5) of Achaia (1) and Etoloakarnania (1).

Since the launch of the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus until today, a total of 37,052 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country. Of these, 32,809 came from random sampling, 3,502 came from targeted sampling or sample selection, and for 741 samples the selection method is not available.

Among the 32,809 randomly selected samples in the territory, the four most frequently targeted or monitored strains isolated are Alpha with 47.44%, followed by Delta with 37.84%, B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K) with a percentage of 7.14%, and Beta with a percentage of 1.01% data for weeks 45-46.

Of the 3,502 samples taken or selected in a targeted manner, 3,339 were of special interest or under observation or interest. Of the 3,502 samples, 37.41% relate to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 36.38% to Delta, 15.39% to Alpha, 5.77% to Beta, 0.11% to C.36 , 0.09% in Gamma, 0.09% in Eta, 0.09% in A.28 and 0.03% in Mu.

In addition, a total of 406 strains of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 272 relate to Delta, 113 to Alpha, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K) , 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).

In addition, in a special targeted sampling carried out on 30 November 2021 in an imported case from Johannesburg, South Africa, the first Omicron strain (B.1.1.529) was detected in the Regional Unit of Chania, which will be included in the tables of the next reference.
