The professor explained that this is a strain about 18.5% more virulent than Omicron 4-5, but with milder symptoms
Even in August, the variant strain may appear in Greece “Centaur”, he appreciated speaking to SKAI and the show “Morning briefing”the professor of Environmental Engineering, Demosthenes Sarigiannis.
“It is quite possible that the Centaur will “enter” our country August or early September, due to the tourist flows”, said the professor. He added that it is already circulating with a fairly large distribution in England, Germany and Italy, but without dominating.
In Greece, as he pointed out, if it appears in August expected to dominate from the end of September.
The professor even explained that it is about a more virulent strain by about 18.5% from Omicron 4-5, however with milder symptoms as it is actually a subvariant of Omicron 2.
Mr. Sarigiannis also estimated that we are not expected to see a very large increase in hard pointersif “Centaur” prevails.
Asked if there is a need for imposing measures in the winter, he noted that milder and more targeted measures could be imposed compared to the previous “turns” of the pandemic. “Having one self-test a week in schools would be a very important mechanism to reduce the spread that goes through them,” he said indicatively.
He also emphasized the importance of the 4th vaccination dose to strengthen immunity: “The reason why 35-40 deaths are recorded per week is precisely the drop in immunity. We are already “paying” for the choice not to do the 4th installment now because the next one will come. It is the wise thing to do now with such a virulent strain prevailing.”
