Brazil records 136 deaths from Covid and more than 17 thousand cases

by

Brazil recorded 136 deaths from Covid and 17,888 cases of the disease, this Friday (26). As a result, the country has lost 683,464 lives and 34,366,101 people have been infected by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of deaths has completed 11 days of decline (to be considered, the variation must be greater than 15% compared to the data from two weeks earlier). It now stands at 144 a day, down 33.3% from two weeks earlier.

Acre, AmapĂ¡, Distrito Federal, MaranhĂ£o, Mato Grosso do Sul and Roraima did not register any deaths.

The moving average of cases has been falling for 36 days and is now 14,870, a value 36.05% lower than that recorded two weeks ago.

The country’s data, collected until 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate figures related to the coronavirus pandemic. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

In all, 180,690,363 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 170,034,716 people with both doses or with one dose of Janssen vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 84.11% of the population with the 1st dose and 79.15% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine.

To date, 172,179,919 people have taken the third dose and 27,725,649 the fourth.

Acre, AmapĂ¡, ParanĂ¡ and Rio de Janeiro did not update their vaccine information. Tocantins has not updated any information.

The consortium also gathers the record of vaccine doses administered to children. With the expansion of the age group that can receive the vaccine against Covid, the consortium now presents the population from 3 to 11 years old immunized. In this range, the partially immunized share (with only the first dose of vaccine received) is 52.53% and the one that received the second dose is 35.03%.

Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
