The family of Sean Connery, the most memorable actor of James Bond, who died aged 90 in 2020, took the actor’s ashes to Scotland for a celebration on what would have been his 92nd birthday, on Thursday (25). Relatives traveled to the country to fulfill the actor’s last wish, which was to have his ashes scattered in his homeland, according to the Daily Mail.
Micheline Roquebrune, 93, the actor’s widow, had said after his death at her home in the Bahamas in 2020 that her husband wanted part of the ashes scattered in the country and the other in his native Scotland. ‘Let’s take Sean back to Scotland, that was his last wish.’
Earlier this year, the widow said Connery was happiest on a golf course and, as soon as possible, the family would travel to Scotland with his ashes. “I hope to spread them out on a golf course in Scotland as he has always loved playing there.”
The actor’s son Jason, 59, and granddaughter Saskia also made the trip to Scotland to pay tribute to the 007 actor. He said in March that they would probably choose St Andrews to scatter the ashes because his father was a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and regularly played at the famous Old Course. “I have memories of St Andrews always sunny. We had special moments there,” he said.
The family’s pilgrimage to Scotland ended with a celebration of Connery’s life in a town near Edinburgh. About 50 people, all dressed in a glamorous plaid theme, arrived at Edinburgh’s Waverley Station aboard the Royal Scotsman train to the sounds of a trombonist playing.
A source told the Daily Record he couldn’t believe it when he saw Micheline and her group getting off the train. She said the widow walked very slowly arm in arm with a relative to the waiting car. The rest of the group was taken away from the station in a transport fleet, for the celebration.
