We weaken the fear. We strengthen the fight for life.
With personal stories of 6 families of hope, the Make-A-Wish (Make-A-Wish Greece) honors the “golden” month. The parents tell us the events and reveal, both the symptoms their children showed, and the feelings upon hearing the cancer diagnosis. The contribution of wish fulfillment to children’s psychology could not be missing from the testimonies.
Through the videos of the testimonies, the importance of timely recourse to the pediatrician or the hospital is established. The symptoms of the disease are common, common with other more common and everyday pediatric problems, and may initially be deceiving. Some early symptoms may be fever, weakness, fatigue, diffuse bone pain, headache and unsteadiness in walking, severe pain, swelling and tenderness in a specific part of the body.
Fear, anger, despair, sadness and panic are the first emotions that overwhelm parents at the first announcement of the disease, while they describe the fulfillment of their children’s wish as “tons of joy”, life change, blessing, gratitude and hope that everything will be fine good. “A day of celebration” as it is typically mentioned.
You can watch the informative videos on the organization’s YouTube channel and on its website, while a summary of it can be seen here.
In 2021, 7 out of 10 children who had their wish granted, suffered from cancer.
The experience of fulfilling the wish of a child with a serious illness is necessary to improve their mental health, thus shielding their effort to get well.
