Brazil has more than 685,000 deaths from Covid since the beginning of the pandemic

Brazil recorded 23 deaths from Covid and 1,201 cases of the disease this Sunday (25). With the update, the country reaches 685,860 lives lost and 34,674,422 infected by Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of cases shows a reduction of 21.64% compared to data from two weeks ago. It is now 6,380 a day.

The death rate also remains on the decline, with a 10% drop rate compared to two weeks ago. The average number is 63 a day.

It is worth mentioning, however, that weekend numbers have been lower because several states stopped updating pandemic data on Saturdays and Sundays. Some examples are Rio de Janeiro, Maranhão, Piauí, Rondônia, Roraima, in addition to the Federal District.

The country’s data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate figures related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the State Health Departments.

The consortium of press vehicles stopped updating the numbers of vaccinated against Covid on weekends and holidays. On working days, the data is updated as usual. The measure aims to avoid inaccuracies in the numbers provided to the reader.

The change occurs due to problems in the consolidation of vaccination data by state secretariats. Several states do not update the total number of vaccinated on weekends and holidays, and even those that do sometimes report outdated numbers, which do not correspond to reality and are usually corrected in the following days.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths.
