Brazil registered 231 deaths by Covid, this Wednesday (8), and, therefore, completed five consecutive days with a moving average of deaths below 200.

In addition, 10,059 cases of the disease were registered. With that, the country reached 616,298 lives lost and 22,166,366 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of deaths was down 16% from the data of two weeks ago, and reached 183 deaths per day. The average of cases is stable (with no variation greater than 15%) and is now 8,819 daily infections.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Departments.

Vaccination data against Covid-19, also collected by the consortium, were updated in 23 states and the Federal District.

Brazil registered 1,154,997 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Wednesday. According to data from the state departments of Health, there were 90,829 first doses, 552,911 second doses. In addition, 512,515 booster doses were recorded.

There was a record of -1,258 single doses. This was due to negative records in Bahia (-397), CearĂ¡ (-1,140) and ParanĂ¡ (-282).

In all, 159,855,495 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —133,598,571 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of the Janssen vaccine against Covid, there are already 138,180,459 people with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 74.94% of the population with the 1st dose and 64.78% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 98.62% and 85.25%.

Even those who received two doses or one dose of Janssen’s vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
