The National Genomic Surveillance Network of SARS-CoV-2 virus, operated under the coordination of EODY, completed the genomic analysis in 1007 samples that were randomly selected or targeted and cover the period October 21 to December 02.
From the control of 1007 samples, a total of 988 samples with strains of special interest (Variants Of Concern – VOC) emerged. Of the 988 specimens of special interest, 985 relate to the Delta strain, and 3 relate to the Omicron.
Seven of the 985 Delta executives relate to the AY.4.2 strain, which were located in the Regional Units of Lassithi (5), Viotia (1) and the Southern Sector of Athens (1).
The three Omicron executives were located in two imported cases in the Peripheral Units of the Central Sector of Athens and Chania and in a domestic case in the Peripheral Unit of the Central Sector of Athens.
Since the launch of the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus until today, a total of 38,023 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country. Of these, 33,771 came from random sampling, 3,511 came from targeted sampling or sample selection, and for 741 samples the selection method is not available. Among the 33,771 randomly selected samples in the territory, the four most common strains of special interest or surveillance that have been isolated are Alpha, with 46.09%, followed by Delta with 39.61%, B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K) with a percentage of 6.94%, and Beta with a percentage of 0.99%.
The evolution of the relative frequency of the randomly sampled samples by species sampling by week 46 up to week 46 is shown in Figure 9, while additional provisional data for weeks 47-48 are given.
Of the 3,511 samples taken or selected in a targeted manner, 3,348 were of special interest or under observation or interest. Of these samples, 37.31% relate to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 36.54% to Delta, 15.35% to Alpha, 5.75% to Beta, 0.11% to C.36 , 0.09% in Gamma, 0.09% in Eta, 0.09% in A.28 and 0.03% in Mu. In addition, a total of 427 strains of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from samples of imported cases, of which 291 relate to Delta, 113 to Alpha, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K) , 2 in Omicron, 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).
