The singer Iza declared in the podcast “Quem Pode, Pod”, presented by Gio Ewbank and Fernanda Paes Leme, to be demisexual. This way of relating to people is within the spectrum of asexuality. In Iza’s own words:
“It takes me a long time to want to have sex with someone. I think only if I have some connection with the person. I had sex once and I was like ‘my God, I was violated, invaded’, with that feeling of ‘why did I do that?’. It took me a while to understand that had nothing to do with the boy, but with me. I have to admire a lot to say ‘I’m going to give you, today I want to give you'”, said the singer.
The statement caused netizens to face a “blue screen” moment upon discovering that the A for LGBTQIA+ is not for “allies” and “associates”.
Asexual people (or simply “ace”) are those who are not sexually attracted to people of any gender. Demisexuality is characterized by a lack of sexual attraction until an emotional connection is formed. It’s not a matter of not wanting to have sex with strangers, but of not feeling any attraction. Hence comes Iza’s experience of feeling violated or invaded by having sex with someone she didn’t have an emotional or intellectual connection with.
But even within the LGBTQIA+ community there are those who invalidate this sexuality.
