Plevris for ICU: “I will not allow doctors and nurses to be offended”

by

“Anyone who speaks and says that there is a selective reference to ICU beds, insults doctors and nurses and this as a minister I will not allow,” said Health Minister Thanos Plevris from Patras, visiting the new clinics at the North Sector Health Center.

He pointed out that out of the 550 beds that existed, today 1,300 ICU beds are available while noting that when you have a pandemic you will have expectations. “I took the data and saw that the expectations before the pandemic were 70 and 80 people a day. With the pandemic, yes, there are expectations and we deal with them in consultation with the commanders. We try where a patient outside the ICU needs to be intubated, either in surgical beds or in MAF beds. This was a phenomenon mainly in Northern Greece where there was a lot of pressure. At the same time, where it is possible to transport – because it is transported according to medical criteria – to be transported “, added Mr. Plevris and stressed:

“Miserable lies, that beds are kept offend first of all doctors and nurses. The transfers are not made by politicians, they are made by a doctor who uploads to the system which incident should be served, by the EKAB system that monitors the transfer that the patient has to make and by the ICU doctor of the hospital that receives him “.

Referring to the pandemic in general, in view of the holidays, the minister stressed the need to increase vaccinations, noting: “Already with the measures we have taken, we have an increase of over one million in the third dose. And especially for our fellow citizens over the age of 60, the first installment appointments are now approaching 95,000. “If we consider that there were 580,000 unvaccinated, you understand that over 20% have made an appointment for the vaccine, which is the means that currently protects us.”

Mr. Plevris also referred to the program of strengthening the National Health System with the recruitment of doctors, nurses and other staff. “Currently, compared to 2019, there are an additional 12,000 auxiliary and 2,069 permanent doctors. Announcements for doctors have already been issued and in the coming days there will be a large announcement for nurses. For 4,000 nurses and 910 other medical staff “.

He also stated that “for the auxiliary staff that has filled the positions, all these people who are in the system and are currently fighting not to remain as auxiliaries will be given the opportunity but with the big announcements that will come out to have a prudent preferential treatment. “They will be given the opportunity to become permanent with the procedures provided by the Constitution,” he said, adding: “There will be continuous announcements. And for all this time, until the procedures are completed, new posts of assistants have already been approved. Therefore, we hope that we will be able to fill all the gaps “.

Mr. Plevris also referred to the cases of fake certificates, noting especially for the disease certificates that confirmation from PCR test is now required, while regarding the fake vaccinations, he characterized the cases as individual, noting that they are thoroughly examined.

Finally, referring to the staff that is on work suspension because he has not been vaccinated, he stated: “We want to be completely upright, we do not want to say things that we cancel. The obligation has been introduced for limited groups, it concerns the specific ones – and as long as they are not vaccinated, they will not be able to return to the system while there is a pandemic “.

Outside the building, during the minister’s visit, suspended workers as well as representatives of the Association of Hospital Doctors of Achaia had gathered.
