Vaccine passports will only be charged for those who leave Brazil from Wednesday, decides Barroso

by

Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), decided to release the passport from vaccination for those who live in Brazil and were out of the country until this Tuesday (14).

People who leave the country from now on, however, will only be able to return if they prove that they took the immunizing agent against Covid-19.

The decision is a response to an appeal by the AGU (Attorney-General of the Union), which asked the magistrate the scope of its decision to determine the mandatory proof of vaccine against Covid-19 for people arriving in Brazil.

Barroso said that residents who are already abroad and who will return here will be able to enter Brazil, if they have not taken the vaccine, only if they test negative for the coronavirus.

“I make it clear that Brazilians and foreigners residing in Brazil, over 12 years old, who leave the country after the date of this decision, upon return must present proof of vaccination, along with the rest of the required documentation.”

According to the minister, it is a measure “inducing vaccination, duly approved by the STF, to prevent the risk of contamination of the people who live here from increasing on their return”.

In the decision of the last 11th, the minister had not made this distinction and established the charging of the vaccination passport for all people who arrived in Brazil, regardless of the date they left the country.
