Vaccination against the flu of the adult population during the period 2022-2023 has been incorporated into the bill of the Ministry of Health that is being discussed today in the plenary session.

As specifically defined, in article 59 of the bill, in the context of the implementation of the National Adult Influenza Vaccination Program, during the period 2022-2023, the influenza vaccine is fully reimbursed by the National Health Service Provision Organization and the other insurance funds , without the need to present a medical prescription.

It is also stipulated that influenza vaccination is carried out by doctors in the private or public sector, regardless of specialty, as well as by pharmacists. Those carrying out the vaccination register, under their own responsibility, in the National Vaccination Registry the vaccination and the details of the vaccinated. By decision of the Minister of Health, the procedure for carrying out the flu vaccinations, the registration of the carried out vaccination in the National Immunization Register, the procedure for compensation for carried out vaccinations as well as any other technical or detailed matter for the implementation of this are regulated.

“As we all know, the pressure from viruses on public health is great, especially at this time we are going through, and of course the adoption of such a protective measure is absolutely imperative,” said ND MP Konstantinos Maraveyas, speaking earlier today in the Plenary. However, the deputy hoped that “there would be no misunderstandings, in relation to the instructions, as they were formulated by the experts”, because, as he pointed out, “we are not talking about the general population but about a subset of the general population, which are high-risk citizens and those who come into contact with these persons”.

“It is undoubtedly positive that even for these sensitive groups of the population, the vaccine will of course be made free of charge. But the restriction also assigns medical duties to pharmacists, as they are asked to make sure that someone who wants to get the vaccine has a particular disease that places them in the high-risk groups. But I am sure that, staying true to the letter and spirit of the provisions, the ministry may revisit these details,” said the ND MP.
