The WHO notes that “along with BQ.1, BBB are the most antibody-resistant variants to date

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a brief risk assessment for the new subvariant of Omicron ChBB.1.5, which it considers to be more contagious and it spreads faster than the previous ones, but it is not more dangerous.

As mentioned, XBB.1.5 (also known as “Kraken”) has a bigger one resistance against antibodies, but has no mutations known to cause more severe Covid-19 disease in humans than the other variants and sub-variants.

On the other hand, the WHO points out that “together with BQ.1, HBV are the variants with the greatest antibody resistance to date”. Therefore, he expects that “based on its genetic characteristics and initial estimates of its growth rate, BBB.1.5 will probably lead to raises in the number of incidents”.

WHO reports that between October 22, 2022 – January 11, 2023, cases of Omicron ChBB.1.5 have been detected in 38 countriesmost in the US (82%), Britain (6%) and Denmark (2%).
