The eyes at a young age have tremendous adaptability in terms of focus. And when the daughter gets smaller, the objects look clearer. This ability of the eyes to focus, however, decreases over time. After all, just as all the organs of the human body age, so does the eyes. From the age of 40, the elasticity of our optical lenses and consequently their adaptability is gradually lost, making it difficult to read: A typical sign of presbyopia – as the word says, aged eye.

Drops instead of glasses

Until now, the solution was given only by presbyopia glasses. And yet, there is another alternative: “Vuilty” drops could replace glasses – at least so far licensed by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States. even for a few hours, the lives of all those who want to read without presbyopia glasses.

The ability of the eyes to focus decreases over time

One drop in each eye per day – the action starts after about 15 minutes and lasts about six to ten hours. That is, through a systematic use, one can work on a computer or read for most of the day, without glasses. According to studies, the drops are especially suitable for people aged 40-55 years. At older ages the use of glasses is usually one way.

The main ingredient of the preparation is pilocarpine. It is a not so new ingredient, since it has been used in eye treatments since 1875, such as the treatment for glaucoma.

An easy solution, but not without side effects

The cost of the drops for a month is estimated at about 70 euros. Binoculars in rich countries seem to rub their hands. However, this is a preparation that will not solve the problem of presbyopia in the poorest countries. After all, the irritation caused by glasses could be described as a “first world problem”. The high cost, however, is not the only disadvantage of the drops. Their side effects are not unknown if one studies the history of the ingredients: Irritated, red eyes, headaches and difficulty in focusing speed were some of them.

So is it better to avoid experimenting with our eyes and stay on the familiar paths? After all, the tradition of glasses, no matter how tedious, has existed for centuries – specifically from the 13th century.
