He reviewed the past year in relation to the vaccination program, among other things the President of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou, in the information on the course of the coronavirus pandemic in Greece.

“The festive days are in the flow of time a recall of events and thoughts and 2021 is considered a year of wonderful progress in the field of vaccines,” said Ms. Theodoridou.

As he said today, there are 26 vaccines against the coronary that have been approved, while 200 are under development.

He recalled that the “Freedom” vaccination campaign started with the Pfizer vaccine and then with the addition of other vaccines such as Astrazeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson while adolescents and children 5-12 years old were added to the vaccination program as well as the administration of a booster dose.

Ms. Theodoridou stressed that studies show the high transmissibility of the virus with the small variant while the mortality data need documentation. At the same time, he stated that the risk of introduction with the micron mutation is lower than the delta mutation, while the risk of re-infections is up to three times higher.

“The third dose is the main weapon of the variant,” she said.

As Mrs. Theodoridou said, it seems that the severity of the disease is milder, but due to the increased transmissibility it can significantly burden the health systems, emphasizing that a recent publication showed with the strengthening dose reduced neutralizing capacity due to the Omicron mutation, but added that another the third dose may be the factor in successfully treating the infection.

According to the EMA and ECDC, all vaccines are protective against the disease, he said, among other things, while concluding: “We trust science and we are vaccinated.”
