The Ministry of Health released a statement on Monday (27) in which it states that the immunization of children aged 5 to 11 years against Covid-19 should start in January. In the text, the folder still claims to be in favor of the vaccination of this public.
“On January 5, after listening to the society, the folder will formalize its decision and, maintaining the recommendation, the immunization of this age group should start in January”, says the statement.
The ministry’s forecast is that the doses will arrive from January 10th.
The demonstration comes a day after the extraordinary secretary for the fight against Covid-19, Rosana Leite de Melo, stated in a technical note sent to the Supreme Court (Supreme Court) that the vaccine against Covid-19 developed for children is safe, that the immunizing agent it is a protection tool and that vaccination will alleviate class interruptions in the pandemic.
The position contradicts questions about the safety of the vaccine made by minister Marcelo Queiroga and mainly by president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) authorized the use of Pfizer’s vaccine to immunize children aged five years and over against Covid-19 on December 16th. With this, the product insert in Brazil will indicate this new age group.

The decision, however, was not well received by the government. On Thursday (23), Queiroga said that the ministry would recommend the authorization of vaccination with the immunizing agent from Pfizer, as long as there was a medical prescription for the application.
On the same day, the folder released an online public consultation document for the population to give their opinion on childhood vaccination. The consultation will be available on the official website of the folder until January 2, “so that duly substantiated contributions can be presented”.
After that, according to the deadline stipulated by the Minister of Health, the ministry will have three more days to decide on the adhesion of children in this age group to the PNI (National Immunization Program).
