Brazil Records 91 Covid Deaths in Another Day of Compromised Data

by

Brazil recorded 91 deaths from Covid and 6,983 cases of the disease, this Monday (27). With that, the country reached 618,575 lives lost and 22,243,875 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

Cyber hacking into the Ministry of Health’s systems continues to affect pandemic data, both on deaths and cases and on vaccinations.

São Paulo is one of the states that did not release Covid data due to persistent instabilities in the ministry’s system. The state claims that “there was no update” of cases and deaths “between the 11th and 27th of December due to problems in the federal notification system”.

Tocantins, in turn, has not released data since the attack on the ministry’s websites.

The moving averages of deaths and cases remain falling, but, it is worth remembering, amidst the notification problems in the country.

The average number of deaths is now 96 per day, down 36% from two weeks ago. The average number of infections is now 4,311, down 21%.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected daily by the consortium of press vehicles with the state Health Departments.

Data on vaccination against Covid-19 are also among those affected, in several states, by the attack on the ministry’s website. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in 13 states.

Brazil registered 539,337 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Monday. According to data from the state departments of Health, there were 30,371 first doses, 132,732 second doses. In addition, 1,060 booster doses and 375,174 booster doses were recorded.

There was a review of single doses in Ceará (-48).

In all, 160,982,533 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —138.070,768 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 142,681,952 people with both doses or one dose of Janssen’s vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 75.47% of the population with the 1st dose and 66.89% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 99.32% and 88.03%.

Even those who received two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
