Coronavirus: Britain approves Pfizer Paxlovid pill

by

Britain has approved the Pfizer pill against Covid-19 for patients over 18 years of age with mild to moderate symptoms who are at high risk of worsening the disease.

The approval comes at a time when the country is struggling to build its defense amid a spate of Covid-19 daily strikes.

According to official figures, the Pfizer pill, Paxlovid, is most effective when taken in the early stages of the disease, the British Drug Regulatory Authority (MHRA) has said, recommending that the drug be used within five days of the onset of symptoms. .

Pfizer announced this month that Paxlovid has been shown to be 90% effective in preventing high-risk hospitalization and death in patients, and recent laboratory data show that the drug retains its efficacy against the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

“We now have another antiviral drug to treat Covid-19 that can be taken orally rather than intravenously. “This means that it can be administered outside of a hospital setting,” the MHRA chief said in a statement.
