World Rare Disease Day – Rare Disease Day is celebrated every year on the last day of February by “shining the light” on the Rare but numerous disease community and informing the general public and decision makers about rare diseases and the impact they have on their lives.
Patients suffering from rare diseases are rare but not few: they number 30 million in Europe and 300 million in the world.
Rare diseases are estimated at 6,000 – 8,000.
In Hellas the predominant rare diseases range from 350 to 500, and affect from 350,000 to 600,000 Greek families, i.e. more than 1,500,000 people.
50% is about pediatric casesand for 95% of diseases there are no cures, resulting in 35% of children ending up by the age of 5.
In the framework of this year’s World Rare Disease Day – Rare Disease Day 2023, the Rare Diseases Association of Greece (ESAE), the Association “”95″, Hellenic Alliance for Rare Diseases” are organizing the 3rd international conference on rare diseases. The Conference will be held hybridly on February 28, 2023 at the Athens Municipality Technopolis and online on March 1, 2023. Its proceedings will also be broadcast live via an online platform.
