by

Brazil recorded 74 deaths from Covid and 12,292 cases of the disease, this Monday (3). As a result, the country has lost 619,245 lives and 22,302,577 people have been infected with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Tocantins did not release data this Monday.

The moving average of cases continues to grow from two weeks ago and now stands at 8,386, an increase of 153%. The average number of deaths is now 96, a drop of 23%.

The recent growth of infections can be linked to several factors. In several countries, the omicron variant has caused a sharp increase in the number of cases of the disease, which can be aggravated by the current period, after several meetings at the end of the year.

In addition, Brazil faced, during most of the month of December, problems, derived from a cyber attack, in the Ministry of Health’s system, which affected and continues to affect records related to the pandemic. With that, there may have been data impoundments and, consequently, higher values later.

Country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate the numbers related to the pandemic of the new coronavirus. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Data on vaccination against Covid-19 are also among those affected, in several states, by the attack on the ministry’s website. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in 13 states.

Brazil registered 648,088 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Monday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 28,202 first doses, 125,263 second doses. In addition, 2,043 booster doses and 492,580 booster doses were recorded.

There was a review of single doses in Bahia (-1).

In all, 161,268,710 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil —138,922,486 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizing agent. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 143,539,325 people with two doses or one dose of Janssen’s vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 75.60% of the population with the 1st dose and 67.29% of Brazilians with two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 99.49% and 88.55%.

Even those who received two doses or one dose of Janssen vaccine must maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distance, experts say.

The initiative of the consortium of press vehicles took place in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) government, which threatened to withhold data, delayed bulletins about the disease and took information off the air, with the interruption of the dissemination of total cases and deaths. In addition, the government released conflicting data.
