Coronavirus: Towards a new “black” case record today in the shadow of Omicron

by

A new “black” case record is expected to be announced today, Tuesday, by EODY, in the shadow of the Omicron mutation that is spreading rapidly.

Estimates indicate that it will surpass the previous negative record of laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease recorded on December 31, which was 40,560. In fact, SKAI information speaks of at least 57,000 cases, with a probability of approaching 60,000. It is indicative that according to the official records until 11 in the morning the cases were 34,000 to 35,000.

“In essence, we are dealing with a new virus,” Athanasios Tsakris, Vice Rector of EKPA, Professor of Microbiology, and Member of the Committee of Experts, told SKAI about the Omicron mutation.

“The cases are increasing because it is as if we were like last year, without having the vaccine more or less. Same situation, since its transmissibility has nothing to do with the fact that the virus is more contagious, and has no room to be more contagious, it was already very contagious from previous variants. “Omicron has come, and neither those who have been vaccinated nor those who have been ill before can prevent the infection,” he commented.

“It seems that in the coming days we will not be able to prevent the increase of cases, that is, we will see what we see in other European countries,” noted at our station the rector of EKPA Athanasios Dimopoulos.
