About 800 additional Covid beds will be added in Attica, Health Minister Thanos Plevris stressed on Friday.
In an interview with the ATHENS radio station 9.84, the minister stated that Omicron hospitals are pushing the health system in terms of simple beds, but not ICUs.
“At the moment we are trying to meet the need in Athens. In addition to the structures we have – because we have large public structures in Athens – private clinics give 10% to 15% of their beds, which translates into 300-400 extra beds. From all the large clinics, horizontally, we get beds and with the smaller ones, which do not have the infrastructure to support such cases, we are in consultation in order to strengthen the National Health System with their staff, as well as we have a problem, manageable at the moment, with nursing staff who are sick “, he stated.
The minister noted that based on the data so far, no patient has been intubated with “Omicron”, emphasizing that this is encouraging. But, on the other hand, as he mentioned, out of the approximately 650 imports daily, a 30% -40% also concerns “Delta” cases, so from these imports “we assume that we will have pressure on the ICU”.
Regarding the shortages observed in specific medicines, the Minister of Health stated: “The shortages, which are observed these days in specific medicines, due to the activity of the supply chain. Because the drugstores were closed due to the New Year holidays and the Lights and there is a lot of consumption, there was a problem, but we have agreed and it will be resolved immediately. The program will be normalized and by Monday there will be full power supply, there will be no problem “, he noted.
Concluding, Th. Plevris stressed: “As important as it is for the unvaccinated to get the vaccine, it is just as important for the vaccinated to do the boosting dose”.
