The Delta coronavirus strain prevails in Greece according to the results of the data published by EODY regarding the image of virus mutations in Greece.
Specifically, from the data resulting from the National Network of Genomic Surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which operates under the coordination of EODY, the
genomic analysis in 1,308 randomly selected or targeted samples from November 15, 2021 to December 27, 2021, shows that out of 1,255 samples with special interest strains, 976 are Delta strains, and 279 are Omicron strains.
Seven of the 976 Delta executives relate to A.Y.4.2, which were identified in seven domestic cases in the Peripheral Units of the Northern Athens Sector (1), the Western Athens Sector (1), the Central Athens Sector (4) and the Lassithi (1). From the control of 1,308 samples, a total of 1,255 samples emerged with members of special interest (Variants Of Concern – VOC).
Since the launch of the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Network, a total of 42,912 samples of domestic cases have been tested in the country. Of these, 38,569 come from random sampling, 3,602 come from targeted sampling or sample selection, and for 741 samples the selection method is not available.
Among the 38,569 randomly selected samples in the territory, the five most common strains of special interest or under surveillance that have been isolated are Delta with 46.48%, followed by Alpha with 40.35%, B.1.1.318 ( Variant E484K) with a percentage of 6.07%, Beta with a percentage of 0.86% and Omicron with a percentage of 0.64%. Table 4 shows the respective percentages for Alpha, B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), Delta and Omicron strains by Region. The evolution of the relative frequency of the randomly sampled samples by species sampling per week, up to week 50 is shown in Figure 9, while additional provisional data for weeks 51-52 are given.
Of the 3,602 samples sampled or targeted, 3,439 were found to be of special interest or under observation or interest. Of the samples taken or selected in a targeted manner, 36.73% relate to Delta, 36.37% to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 14.96% to Alpha, 5.61% to Beta, 1.42 % in Omicron, 0.11% in C.36, 0.08% in Eta, 0.08% in Gamma, 0.08% in A.28 and 0.03% in Mu.
In addition, a total of 532 members of special interest or under surveillance or interest have been isolated from imported case samples, of which 324 relate to Delta, 113 to Alpha, 74 to Omicron, 7 to Mu, 6 to Beta, 4 to B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K), 1 in Eta, 1 in C.36, 1 in Kappa, and 1 in B.1.1 (Variant E484K).
