Anvisa recommends lifting entry restriction for travelers from 6 African countries

by

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) recommended that the federal government overturn the ordinance that restricts the entry into Brazil of people from six countries: South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland (Eswatini), Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The Jair Bolsonaro government decided on November 26 to ban the entry into Brazil of those who were, in the last 14 days, in six African countries. spread in Brazil.

The new recommendation from the regulatory agency took into account several factors, such as the epidemiological situation in the country, the continuous advance of vaccination against Covid-19, the new rules for entry into Brazil and the rate of spread of the Ômicron in the world.

Anvisa clarified that the ômicron is already in 110 countries around the world, according to data from the WHO (World Health Organization). Therefore, the transmission of the omicron broke the barrier of these African countries, which justifies this review.

However, the same measures must be maintained for countries as for other travelers of international origin, i.e., requirement for pre-boarding tests, filling in the DSV (Traveler’s Health Declaration), proof of vaccination against Covid-19 and quarantine. after landing in Brazil.

The omicron was initially sequenced in South Africa in November last year. Preliminary data indicate that it is more transmissible than other variants, such as delta, although it does not develop serious conditions in many of those infected.

In Brazil, the first case was announced on November 30. The ômicron variant already represents 92.6% of positive tests for the detection of Covid in Brazil, indicates a survey carried out by laboratories in the country released this Thursday.

The first death caused by the omicron variant of the coronavirus in Brazil was confirmed this Thursday (6) by the Health Department of the city of Aparecida de Goiânia, in the metropolitan region of Goiás.

The 68-year-old patient was hypertensive and had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to the folder, he had received three doses of vaccine against covid-19: two in the primary and one reinforcement schedule.
