Majorkinis: Deltacron laboratory mistake – Cypriot scientists: He was in a hurry, he is wrong

by

Gikas Majorkinis attributed the reports about the appearance of Deltacron, ie the mixing of the Delta and Omicron mutations of the coronavirus in Cyprus, to a technical laboratory error, provoking the angry reaction of a Cypriot professor who identified the samples.

“Regarding the Deltacron (mix of Delta and Omicron) of Cyprus that was heard a lot in the Greek media recently, the first independent analyzes show that this is a technical error of the laboratory in the process of reading the genome …..”, the assistant wrote on Facebook Professor of Virology at EKPA and member of the Greek Committee of Experts Gikas Majorkinis.

Asked to comment on this post, Dr. Leontios Kostrikis, whose team identified Deltacron samples, told SigmaLive that the statement was incorrect, hasty and scientifically immoral.

As he explained, “they do not know the results we have.”

At the same time, he stated that the said results of the research for Deltacron will be sent to Greece to a distinguished Scientist, “in order to establish the truth of the matter”.

He added that “in addition to the 25 individuals found in Cyprus and having all the Omicron mutations at the N-terminus of protein S, we have found another 52 who have different numbers of polymorphisms at the site.”

These 52, he explained, are in 12 different Delta genealogies, how can that be wrong? he wondered.

The results show that there was evolutionary pressure on a Delta ancestor to create polymorphisms like the Omicron, and Deltacron genealogies evolved, he concluded.
