The government of Pernambuco announced, this Monday (10), new measures to try to contain the escalation of Covid-19 and flu cases. The rules come into effect on Friday (14th) and are valid until the 31st.
The new rules implemented determine the presentation of a vaccination passport for access to food services, cinemas, theaters and museums.
Proof of vaccination will be two doses of AstraZeneca, Coronavac or Pfizer or a single dose of Janssen for people up to 54 years old. For people over 55 years of age, the requirement will also include a booster dose, in a sign of toughening measures.
Events will also have a maximum number of attendees limited to 3,000 people outdoors and 1,000 people indoors or 50% of the space’s capacity – whichever number is smaller.
In addition to the requirement of proof of vaccination, events must require the presentation of a negative Covid test, with 24 hours in advance for antigen tests and 48 hours for RT-PCR tests.
“The occupancy of intensive care beds in the state reached 85% this Monday. We have a double problem with an influenza epidemic within the Covid pandemic. We have done our part with the expansion of beds, but that alone will not be enough “, said Governor Paulo Câmara (PSB).
“We are expanding the requirement for the vaccination passport to save lives and reduce the number of more than 500 thousand people from Pernambuco who have not completed their immunization.”
Behind the scenes of the government, the assessment is that the new measures are a sign that, if necessary, there may be tougher restrictions for the Carnival period, at the end of February and beginning of March.
