Vasilakopoulos to SKAI: It is not certain that every new mutation will be weaker – The example of Quebec

by

Professor of Pulmonology Theodoros Vasilakopoulos spoke to SKAI about the Omicron mutation and vaccination.

“As long as there is transmission, there will be constant mutations and new strains will emerge. “It is not certain that they will be weaker every time”, the professor pointed out, explaining that “it is not a linear attenuation of the virus, that is, every strain de and well be lighter.

However, he said that “the chances of it becoming more morbid and deadly are lower.”

Regarding the fourth dose for immunosuppressed people, he said that because they are taking drugs that do not allow their immune system to have a good immune response and make antibodies, it is right to take another dose.

For the general population, he stressed that they must be persuaded to be vaccinated.

“If not everyone is vaccinated, the rest of us will continue to receive boosting doses. “The solution is to get a vaccine adapted to all the changes that have taken place in the virus so far and the booster is only for what is new.”

As for the pressure on the health system, he said that for some time it will be pressed and we will experience the same again.

Referring to the mandatory fines for those over 60, he stressed that in Greece it is only 40% successful. This is because about 200,000 of the 500,000 unvaccinated people took the first dose just three days before the measure was taken.

In fact, he cited the measure in force in Canada as an example.

“In Quebec, the unvaccinated will pay a huge tax because they disproportionately burden the system, because they deprive another patient of surgery.”
