Explaining the fact that while he was diagnosed positive for the coronavirus he was found in a series of events and even a mask, Novak Djokovic gave in a post on Instagram, emphasizing that it was a “human error”.
“We live in a time of challenge in a global pandemic and sometimes these mistakes can happen,” he said.
“As he said, he proceeded with this post, as he wants to deal with the ongoing misinformation about his activities and his participation in events in December, despite the positive result in my PCR test”, he stated characteristically.
He explained that he watched a basketball game in Belgrade on December 14th, after which some people tested positive.
The top tennis player said that, although he had no symptoms, he did a quick antigen test on December 16, which was negative, before doing a PCR test the same day.
He added that he awarded prizes to children at an event the next day, while he was asymptomatic and “felt good”.
“I had not been notified of the positive PCR result until after that incident (the event on December 17),” he said in a post.
The tennis star said that on December 18, he took a photo and an interview in a French newspaper, but canceled all his other obligations.
“I felt compelled to go ahead and conduct the L’Equipe interview, as I did not want to disappoint the journalist, but I made sure to socially distance myself and wear a mask except when they were taking my picture,” Djokovic concluded.
