Brazil registers more than 88 thousand cases of Covid, the highest value since July 2021

by

Brazil recorded 88,464 cases of Covid, this Wednesday (12). It is the highest value since July 23 of last year, when 106,181 were registered after an update of data from Rio Grande do Sul.

Without considering this dammed data, the value becomes the highest since June 23 and 22, 2021, when 114,139 cases were recorded, respectively (also due to a system update, this time in Rio Grande do Norte) and 86,833 cases.

The country also recorded 138 deaths from the disease. With this, the country reaches 620,419 lives lost and 22,718,606 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of cases is 614% above the figure recorded two weeks ago and now stands at 52,714 infections per day. The average number of deaths is now 123 deaths per day, a growth of 7%, which means a situation of stability.

The country data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of collaboration between leaf, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disclose the numbers related to the new coronavirus pandemic. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the State Health Departments.

Vaccination data against Covid-19 is affected by the hacker attack on the Ministry of Health system, which took place in December, with several states without update. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in 13 states and the Federal District.

Brazil registered 763,074 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Wednesday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 47,782 first doses, 137,651 second doses. In addition, 1,286 single doses and 576,355 booster doses were recorded.

CearĂ¡ reviewed data on single doses applied (-35).

In all, 161,775,737 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil — 140,271,581 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizer. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 144,902,072 people with both doses or with one dose of Janssen vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 75.84% of the population with the 1st dose and 67.93% of Brazilians with both doses or with one dose of the Janssen vaccine. Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 99.81% and 89.40%.

Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, experts say.

The initiative by the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro government (without a party), which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
