“The administration of antiviral drugs for the coronavirus will be done under similar conditions as the administration of the monoclonal antibodies,” Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga explained to SKAI 100.3. The antiviral pill platform for Covid-19 is expected to open later in the day.
The main difference compared to monoclonal, he explained, is that they are not administered to pregnant women.
Ms. Gaga pointed out that the patient’s consent will be needed, as the specific drugs have not yet received the approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The minister added that there is no provision for all patients to be given precautionary measures, while he answered positively to the question whether their administration can stop the journey to an Intensive Care Unit.
Mr. Gaga noted that there is a large spread of the Omicron mutation in the community.
Regarding the question why we have a high number of deaths, although the cases are falling, he said that in Greece there is an older population, and we show great resistance to antibiotics.
He stressed, however, that “if we look at the EU figures as a whole, Greece is not in such a high position.”
