The operation of a new space for the Department of Central Laboratories of Metropolitan General was inaugurated, following the investments in equipment and new facilities in which the clinic has progressed in recent years, upgrading its infrastructure.
Metropolitan General’s Central Laboratories are a critical department, as they meet the needs of the Clinic’s inpatients and outpatients 24 hours a day. They provide a wide range of diagnostic tests and consist of the Departments of Clinical Microbiology, Blood Donation, Biochemistry, Hematology, Immunology / Hormones, Molecular Biology and special Examinations. They have advanced equipment of high specifications, Laboratory Information System (LIS) and operate on a 24-hour basis, contributing substantially to the work of clinicians in the diagnosis of disease and the treatment of patients. They are staffed with highly qualified and experienced staff (scientific, paramedical and administrative), capable of offering high-level services characterized by speed, validity and quality.
Appropriate information on diagnostic tests, instructions for choosing the type of biological sample and how to collect it, guidelines for collaborating doctors, nurses and patients, explanation of results are provided.
The Central Laboratories are certified according to the international standard ELOT EN ISO 9001:2015, as well as the TEMOS Quality System which focuses on International Patient Management and Medical/Health Tourism. The certifications with the specific standards demonstrate, in addition to the implementation of quality systems, the laboratory’s technical ability to observe strict procedures in terms of operation and test methodologies, so that correct and comparable results are obtained. In addition, there is collaboration with Reference Centers and research groups in Greece and Europe.
In all Departments there is a daily Internal Quality Control and at regular intervals an External Quality Control according to international and Greek standards (Biorad, E.S.E.A.P., EAE, EQAS, Medical School of Athens-Laboratory of Microbiology).
