Brazil recorded 31,629 cases of Covid this Sunday (16) and 92 deaths. Of the 22 states that updated cases and deaths, three did not record deaths.

With updated data, the country has lost 621,099 lives and 23,006,952 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

The moving average of positive tests is 69,235 and that of deaths is 153.

The explosion of Covid cases at the beginning of the year occurs amid the expansion of the omicron in Brazil.

During the month of December, following a hacker attack on the Ministry of Health’s systems, several states reported registration difficulties. Although the Pasta states that the systems were normalized in December, part of the data may be the result of the damming. Even so, the rapid rise in bed occupancy rates for Covid across the country points to the spread and impact of the omicron.

The country’s data, collected up to 8 pm, are the result of a collaboration between Folha, UOL, O Estado de S. Paulo, Extra, O Globo and G1 to gather and disseminate figures related to the new coronavirus pandemic. The information is collected by the consortium of press vehicles daily with the state Health Departments.

Vaccination data against Covid-19 is affected by the hacker attack on the Ministry of Health system, which took place in December, with several states without update. In any case, the information was at least partially updated in ten states.

Brazil registered 2,442,288 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, this Sunday. According to data from the state health departments, there were 139,263 first doses, 620,836 second doses. In addition, 370,750 single doses and 1,311,439 booster doses were recorded.

In all, 162,045,040 people received at least the first dose of a vaccine against Covid in Brazil — 141,607,183 of them have already received the second dose of the immunizer. Added to the single doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid, there are already 146,615,093 people with both doses or with one dose of Janssen vaccine.

Thus, the country already has 75.43% of the population with the 1st dose and 68.25% of Brazilians with both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine.

Considering only the adult population, the values are, respectively, 100.17% and 90.63%.

Even those who received both doses or one dose of the Janssen vaccine should maintain basic care, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, say experts.

The initiative by the consortium of press vehicles occurred in response to the attitudes of the Jair Bolsonaro government (without a party), which threatened to withhold data, delayed newsletters about the disease and took information from the air, with the interruption of the disclosure of the totals of cases and deaths. In addition, the government has released conflicting data.
