The French parliament finally adopted today, Sunday, with the last vote of the deputies, the bill for the introduction of the vaccination pass, which the government wants to implement as soon as possible due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country.
The text was approved by 215 votes to 58, with 7 abstentions. The Socialist MPs have planned to refer the matter to the Constitutional Council in order to ensure respect for “fundamental freedoms”, which will postpone the publication of the bill for a few days.
While nearly 300,000 infections have been reported daily on average for a week now, the government hopes the vaccine will start around January 20th.
It will therefore be necessary to be able to justify a vaccination regime for access to leisure activities, restaurants and bars, fairs or interregional public transport. A negative diagnostic test will no longer suffice, except for access to health facilities and services.
The new pass will be applied for 16 years and over, minors aged 12 to 15 years are required to present the current health pass.
For this twelfth health text within two years, a week of examination by the two assemblies was initially foreseen, for an implementation on January 15th. The time was doubled, between failures and controversies, culminating in the statements of President Emanuel Macron, who was determined to “bag” the unvaccinated.
