Coronavirus pills may be started within a week – What you need to know

by

Even within a week, the administration of MSD antiviral pills (merck) could begin, according to information from SKAI, the members of the competent Committee that met last night. A condition is for the Ministry of Health to accept their suggestions and give the green light.

The two main issues that remain are:

a) to resolve the procedural issue with the written consent of the patient, to have a form to be kept by the patient himself as well as popular information for those who take the pills

b) the time of administration is very short from the moment of the onset of symptoms (the guidelines provide for 2-3 days)

They also ask for information from the treating physician who monitors the patient so that they know how he responds to the treatment.

According to information, even 4,000-5,000 pills could be administered.

Antiviral pills will be given to the same categories of patients who could take monoclonal antibodies, namely: over 70 years old, cancer patients, people with cardiovascular disease, chronic diseases that reduce the immune system, very overweight, patients with pulmonary fibrosis, etc. Pregnant women are excluded, for whom the use of antiviral pills is not indicated.

According to the plan, the administration will be done at home and patients will be able to obtain the pills from the pharmacies of the hospitals and the EOPYY.
