The epidemiological development is optimistic, but the cases and the so-called hard indicators remain at high levels, stressed the associate professor of Epidemiology – Preventive Medicine at the Medical School of EKPA and member of the committee of experts Dimitris Paraskevi. “Weighed” substantially on the committee’s decision to propose the extension of the restrictive measures by one week.
However, Mr. Paraskevi pointed out that there is a small de-escalation in the ICUs, adding that 50% of the treatments in single beds are due to the Omicron mutation.
Regarding the deaths, he stated that they are primarily related to previous hospitalizations due to the Delta mutation. He warned that the mild illness caused by Omicron “should not be misinterpreted and should not be considered safe, especially for those who are not vaccinated”.
The associate professor of Epidemiology-Preventive Medicine also referred to the symptoms of Omicron, but also to vaccinations.
