“We are working towards collective security,” he added, adding that “we must also look at the budgetary aspect” of this goal. The need for such investments – in defense, in the fight against climate change – must be taken into account in the consultations for the revision of the Stability and Growth Pact, Mr. Macron stressed.
Asked about joint European military operations, the French president, meanwhile, referred to the Eastern Mediterranean and Greek-French joint operations. “This was done at the request of Greek colleagues and in cooperation with them. “France is fully committed to this approach.” Listing the recent pan-European defense initiatives, he called for even more ambitious steps in the near future.
