Every three seconds someone in the world develops dementia. Alzheimer’s disease, but also dementia in general, is an unbearable social health problem, from which 197,000 Greeks suffer. In fact, according to the forecasts, the 2050 this number will reach 354,000. In Greece, approximately 400,000 caregivers provide daily care to people with dementia, with the most common form being Alzheimer’s disease, shouldering a huge practical, financial and mental burden.

The above points out the Hellenic Society of Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders (Alzheimer Hellas), on the occasion of September 21, which has been established as World Alzheimer’s Day.

Aiming to raise public awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease, Alzheimer Hellas has planned the following events:

  • Participation in the institutionalized series of events of the Municipality of Neapolis – Sykeon, entitled “Balkan Square” – Strebenioti area. The Company will have its own exhibition stand, with rich information material to inform the public from Thursday 7/9 to Thursday 14/9 and time 19:00 – 23:00.
  • Participation in the Youth Volunteering Festival “Connected we stand”, on Saturday 16/09, from 11:00-20:00, at the New beach of Thessaloniki (statue of M. Alexander).
  • As part of the celebration of World Alzheimer’s Disease Day, the theatrical performance “21” will be given by the Theater Group of Alzheimer Hellas – Agia Eleni, scripted and directed by Evangelia Bakoglidou. The performance will be given on Thursday 21/9, at 19:30 pm, at the Municipal Theater “Aneton” (Paraskevopoulou 42, Thessaloniki).
  • Conducting speeches-informing the public and conducting free memory tests by the health professionals of Alzheimer Greece. In particular, in collaboration with TOMY Menemeni-Ampelokipo, there will be an information session for the public in Menemeni square on Thursday 21/9 (17:00-19:00) as well as an informative speech on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease at the Giannitsa Mental Center of the Municipality of Pella , on Friday 29/9, at 10:00. On the same day, memory tests will be performed by appointment (08:30-14:00).
