A total of fifty-three migrants were identified and rescued by the Coast Guard in Farmakonissi.

Specifically, yesterday morning the Port Authority of Leros was informed about the detection of a T/X vessel, in the maritime area of ​​1 nm. northeast of Leros, as well as for the existence of a number of foreigners on the island of Farmakonisi.

A LS-EL.AKT. patrol boat immediately went to the area, while officers of the Special Missions Unit (K.E.A.) LS-EL.AKT. located nineteen foreigners, who initially boarded the above patrol vessel and then to a Frontex force vessel.

The foreigners in question were transferred to the prefecture of Leros and then to the Closed Controlled Structure of Leros.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Port Authority of Leros, while it was not possible to find the above speedboat.

At the same time, this morning patrol vessel LS-EL.AKT. spotted in the sea area 2 n.m. south-east of Farmakonisi, immobilized and semi-submerged inflatable boat, with a sufficient number of passengers.

The above patrol vessel picked up thirty-four foreigners (10 men, 14 women, 10 minors), all in good health, and transported them safely to the port of Agia Marina, Leros. The boat in which the above foreigners were on board sank.
