The initiative “The 1st visit to the Rheumatologist is free” received by the Hellenic Society of Rheumatology and the Professional Association of Rheumatologists of Greece (ERE – EPERE), from October 16 to 30.

The action is implemented in the context of prevention and early diagnosis for rheumatic diseases, with the participation of 39 rheumatologists throughout Greece (Athens, Aigio, Alexandroupolis, Amaliada, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kavala, Kalloni Lesvos, Karditsa, Komotini, Livadia, Mytilini, Patras, Piraeus, Serres, Sparta, Trikala, Chios).

If you feel swelling and morning stiffness in the joints or pain and morning stiffness in the lower back and the discomfort lasts for days, if you experience a rash, dry mouth, dry eyes, you can visit one of the rheumatologists participating in the action in order to be informed, reports ERE – EPERE .

Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment they will help you to deal with rheumatic diseases effectively. The diagnosis of rheumatic diseases is mainly clinical and is based on a detailed history and careful clinical examination.

The medical specialist, the rheumatologist, is the one who will evaluate the severity of the examination according to the symptoms and the clinical picture of the patient and will suggest the appropriate treatments to improve the clinical symptoms and restore the particularly burdened quality of life of rheumatic patients diseases.

There are more than 200 rheumatic diseases and they affect people of all ages (even children) and both sexes. It is estimated to affect 1/4 of the population of developed countries at some point in their lives.

In Europe alone, 120 million people suffer from rheumatic diseases and many of them remain undiagnosed, while in Greece it has been estimated that 26% of the population suffers from some rheumatic-musculoskeletal condition.
