In the week of February 21st to 25th, the first batches of the protein vaccine are expected in our country, as announced by the general secretary of Primary Health Care, Marios Themistokleous.
Mr. Themistokleous, during the information on the progress of the vaccination program, said that our country is expected to receive in the next period (February and March) “474,000 doses, with the first receipt on 21/2 with 168,000 doses”.
The vaccinations with the vaccine of the American company will be done in specific vaccination centers, in specific parts of the country, from the beginning of March.
It is noted that the protein-based vaccine of Novavax, which was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) last December, uses a different technology from the mRNA vaccines of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
The Novavax protein-based vaccine will be administered in two doses, and was found to be effective against a number of variant strains of the new coronavirus, according to the ministry. This will be an alternative for those who do not want a vaccine that uses adenovirus RNA (mRNA) technology.
Novavax has announced that taking a booster dose of the vaccine has further enhanced the immune response of those given the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus. These data come from the company’s ongoing testing of the effectiveness of the preparation it created in adolescents and as a booster dose.
“At the moment the booster dose is 5,816,000 beneficiaries, 80% of the completed vaccinations and 4,880,000 vaccinations have already been performed, 83.8% of the beneficiaries and another 200,000 have scheduled their appointments, 3.4% . In total, that is, 87.2% “, the general secretary of Primary Health Care announced on Tuesday.
