The Novavax coronavirus vaccine for people over the age of 18 was approved by the British Drug Regulatory Authority (MHRA) on Thursday. This is the fifth coronavirus vaccine approved in the United Kingdom.

The Nuvaxovid vaccine was licensed for first and second doses after it was found to meet the required safety, quality and efficacy standards, the UK Drugs and Health Products Regulatory Authority said in a statement.

The approval of the vaccine from Britain was received a few days after the pharmaceutical company applied for a license in the US, after months of problems with its development and production.

Following approval by the MHRA, the Joint Immunization and Vaccination Committee will issue guidelines for the use of the vaccine in the UK coronavirus vaccination program.
