All its indicators recorded a decrease SARS-CoV2between November 6-12, according to the epidemiological report of the EODY on viral infections of the respiratory system.

SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection: The positivity in all tested samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week. The number of admissions (n=793) showed a decrease of 17% compared to the average weekly number of admissions in the previous 4 weeks and was lower than the number of admissions in the corresponding week of 2022.

The number of new intubations (n=21) showed a slight decrease compared to the average weekly number of new intubations over the previous 4 weeks (n=23) and was lower than the number of intubations in the corresponding week of 2022. The number of patients with a COVID-19 infection who are hospitalized intubated are 43.

There were 50 deaths with a median age of 82 years (range 59-98 years). The number of deaths showed a decrease compared to the average weekly number of deaths in the previous 4 weeks (n=60) and was lower than the number of deaths in the corresponding week of 2022.

At week 43 the most frequent BA.2 sub-variant was XBB.1.5 (50%), followed by EG.5 (20%) and XBB.1.16 (14%). A total of 140 positive samples of the BA.2.86 sub-variant have been recorded in Greece, with sampling dates from 05 September to 02 November.

Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed an increase in SARS-CoV-2 virus circulation in 5 of the 9 areas tested.

Influenza virus: Influenza positivity in the community remains below 10%* (sentinel). No new serious case with ICU hospitalization was recorded, nor was there a new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza. Since the beginning of October, 4 people with laboratory-confirmed influenza have been hospitalized in the ICU and 2 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza have been recorded. In the two influenza reference centers, from week 40/2023 to week 45/2023, 16 samples positive for influenza viruses (sentinel samples and hospital samples) have been recorded, namely 15 (94%) were type A and one (6 %) type B. Of the 15 type A strains subtyped, one (7%) belonged to subtype A (H3) and 14 (93%) to subtype A (H1)pdm09.

Influenza syndromes (regardless of the pathogen): The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits is low.

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV: No positive samples were found in the community.
