The professor of pulmonology at EKPA, Anastasia Kotanidouspoke to ERT about the coronavirus, vaccination, the “aggressive” flu, but also the situation in the country’s hospitals.

“The holiday season was very difficult. We had too many cases with disease covid-19 and we also had a little pressure on the health system. Fortunately the Intensive Care Units were not too much pressured, but the hospitals were pressed by the attendance of the patients in the departments Urgent Incidents in regular outpatient clinics with covid-19 and this was the reason why we said to speed up the vaccination of people who belong to vulnerable groups” said Ms. Kotanidou, commenting on the new spot of the Ministry of Health.

The good thing, according to her, is that the percentage of people turning to vaccination centers for a vaccination has already begun to increase. “Fortunately, we have enough vaccination centers in our country and there is not a long wait. That is, today it is very easy to make an immediate appointment to get the approved vaccine. The percentages are increasing,” he noted.

Regarding the image in our country, regarding cases and serious ones hospitalizationsshe seemed reassuring.

“Right now things are much softer than last month. Hospital admissions and hospital admissions have also decreased greatly. A percentage enters essentially because it is more concerned. He has not taken the antiviral drugs in time, which we know very well are available in our country and should be taken by all people over 65 who have underlying diseases immediately. However, the percentage has decreased considerably. That is, where we had reached 1,700 hospitalizations in the country, now we are at a level well below 1,000”, he emphasized and noted that in the Intensive Care Units we have a very small percentage of admissions. “In other words, the intensive care beds in terms of covid-19 are very few that are covered. We have about 60-65 intubators across the country”

However, Ms. Kotanidou sounded the alarm for her as well fluemphasizing that it is too heavy, too aggressive.

“And because we’re relatively virgin in terms of infections from various other viruses, this year the flu has quite a few serious incidents. In other words, we are seeing a flu that is driving many people to hospitals,” he said.
