New Covid Outbreaks in the Indigenous Population; listen to podcast

by

In the last week, Mato Grosso do Sul registered more than 150 cases and two deaths by Covid-19 among indigenous people, according to the Special Indigenous Sanitary District. In the urban reserve of Dourados alone, 89 people were diagnosed with coronavirus, and one died.

The lack of medical supplies and ICU beds, in addition to the distance from the villages, make the indigenous population more vulnerable to Covid. Therefore, they were included in the priority vaccination groups. Now experts are urging the government to release booster shots and mass testing to “avoid a tragedy.”

In this Thursday’s (11) episode, Café da Manhã talks with doctor and researcher at Fiocruz Paulo César Basta about the impacts of the pandemic on the indigenous population and what the government should do to prevent new outbreaks.
