At 800 million the number of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease worldwide is a progressive disease that affects more than 10% of the general population worldwide. In Europe, this number reaches 100 million people and projections show that by 2040, CKD will be the fifth leading cause of death worldwide. Today, it is estimated that approximately 1,000,000 people suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease in Greece, of which 14,000 are in the final stage of the disease. In Thessaloniki, approximately 1,400 patients undergo hemodialysis, 150 undergo peritoneal dialysis and 300 have undergone a kidney transplant.

The organizers of the 5th scientific conference on “Quality of Life in Chronic Kidney Disease” point out the above, which will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024 (11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.) at the KEDEA of AUTH. The aim of the Conference is to provide information on the current views on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation, as well as on the implementation of programs of therapeutic exercise, healthy dietary lifestyle, psychological support and social reintegration, as complementary methods of treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease disease, aimed at improving their quality of life. During the conference, among other things, the exercise programs implemented by the AUTH Sports Medicine Laboratory during hemodialysis in the Artificial Kidney Unit of the Second Nephrology Clinic of AUTH will be presented.

The day is organized by the B΄ Nephrology Clinic of AUTH at AHEPA Hospital, the 1st Nephrology Clinic of AUTH at Hippocrates Hospital, the Sports Medicine Laboratory of TEFAA of AUTH, the Health Committee of AUTH, the “European Association of Rehabilitation in Chronic Kidney Disease » and the Association of Nephropathies of Thessaloniki. The event is aimed at doctors, nurses, trainers, patients and the entrance is free.
