All receptors for SARS-CoV2 and cfor the first time no new intubations due to Covid-19 infection are recorded. Influenza positivity in the community remains above 10% (seasonal threshold for the onset of epidemic influenza activity according to ECDC, according to the epidemiological report of EODY for the period 4-10 March.

Particularly:

Influenza-like illness – ILI (regardless of pathogen)

The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits remained the same as last week.

Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen).

The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits showed a slight decrease compared to the previous week.

SARS-CoV2 virus – Covid-19 infection

THE positivity in all tested samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week.

THE number of imports (n=143) showed a 54% decrease compared to the average weekly number of admissions in the previous 4 weeks (n=313) and was lower than the number of admissions in the corresponding week of 2023 (n=771)

No new intubations were recorded (n=0). The average weekly number of new intubations during the previous 4 weeks was 5, and the number of intubations in the corresponding week of 2023 was 26. The number of patients with COVID-19 infection who are intubated is 15.

14 deaths were recorded with a median age of 87.5 years (range 71-100 years). The number of deaths showed a decrease compared to the average weekly number of deaths in the previous 4 weeks (n=24) and was lower than the number of deaths in the corresponding week in 2023 (n=76).

THE more common sub-variant of BA.2 was JN.1, with over 85% of cases.

THE viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed a reduction in the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in 4 of the 9 areas tested.

Influenza virus

THE positivity for influenza in the community (sentinel network) remains above 10% (seasonal threshold for initiation of epidemic influenza activity according to ECDC) and unchanged from the previous week. The positivity of SARI samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week.

No new serious cases with hospitalization in ICU were recordedwhile 4 new deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.

In total since the start of the influenza surveillance, 132 people have been hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza in the ICU and 64 deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded.

645 influenza strains (derived from community sentinel samples, from SARI surveillance samples and from hospital samples outside surveillance networks) were typed, of which 525 (81%) were type A and 120 (19%) were type B.

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV

RSV positivity showed a decrease compared to the previous week in the community (PHC Sentinel network), as well as in hospitals (SARI surveillance network).
